12 WAYS THE RE-FILL YOUR CUP

12 Ways to Re-Fill Your Motivation Cup

Life naturally has its ups and downs, and it can certainly be demanding. We all have our own concoctions of plates to juggle, as well as the demands of people in our life, which will in turn drain energy from us. That’s why it is really important to find ways in which you can boost your own energy. Below are some ideas on how you can re-fill your cup.

What Does Re-Fill Your Cup Mean?

Firstly, it’s important to recognise where this phrase comes from. Has your life gotten hectic? Do you struggle to find time for yourself, for positive self-care? It’s hard juggling the demands of work, family and friends, and often there is very little time left from our modern day lives to re-fill our own cup.

Do you find yourself being everything to everyone? It shows what a truly kind person you are, but the problem is there isn’t enough time in the day to take care of everyone and yourself. When you are juggling the constant demands of tasks, activities, work and people in your life, you may feel depleted in many ways: emotional, mentally and physically tired out. Do you ever feel drained? As if there is no energy left to give out to anyone or to anything? This is the point in which your cup is empty.

Your cup needs re-filling. This is to replenish those energies which help give you a mental, emotional boost as well as gives you physical energy. It’s the same as when you say you need to recharge your batteries. Does your TV remote work well when the batteries have run low? You won’t either. It’s essential to re-fill your cup, especially as you are so much more valuable than a device or piece of technology- you are a human, with a soul and purpose. So, don’t forget to recharge and refuel.

Is Time Your Excuse?

Often, we find ourselves trying to fit everything into any gap in our hectic schedules. Do you ever have a fully free day? Do you find yourself missing out on valuable sleep to ensure everything fits into your day? It can be nice to get everything done, to complete your to-do list, and often the last thing we feel is needed is to unplug. But actually, it’s the most important thing as we are not meant to run on empty, which is what we often end up doing. This is the danger zone- this is how you reach burnout.

That’s why it’s time to pause. Have a look at the ideas below for ways in which you can re-fill your cup. The best bit is once you have a full cup, you will be able to give to those around you and to your work so much more as you will have the energy to do so. Take a look at the ideas below, and I challenge you to do ONE thing each day, or each week at an extended time to re-fill your own cup.

Positive Self-Care Idea

  1. Go for a walk in nature: this can be one of the most inspiring, grounding things you can do. It’s good for you both physically and mentally.
  2. Take up a new hobby or enjoy doing a current one. Spend some time doing something you love or discovering something new. It will help take your mind off worries, whilst giving your soul a boost.
  3. Call a friend or family member. Sometimes a phone call with someone you love really can help to boost your soul. You can laugh, cry and share a moment on the phone really valuing the call, rather than feeling rushed.
  4. Watch a TV show, or film. Often escapism is a great form of re-filling your cup. You could try and watch a new TV series, or re- visit one of your favourites. Pick an uplifting film, which will have you feeling warm by the end of it.
  5. Read a book. Reading is one of the most peaceful past times. You can do this anywhere. Take a book to the beach, the forest, a bench in the park, your garden or cosied on your bed with a cuppa. Escape within the written word.
  6. Play a video game. This could be a simple solitaire game on your phone, or Mario Kart with the family on the Nintendo. Playing video games boosts the logical side of your brain, whilst giving you time out from the real world.
  7. Spend time in your garden, gardening or just sitting outside in nature. Fresh air is so beneficial and calming. Gardening makes a great hobby too!
  8. Draw or paint. Let your creativity roam free.
  9. Do yoga or meditate. Both of these are really good for your physically and mentally. Give it a try- it really can be calming and help to fight against anxiety and depression.
  10. Have a relaxing bath or shower. If you’re having a bath, fill it with bubbles and light a candle. Take some time to focus on your breathing whilst you have a soak.
  11. Play a card game. There are many card games for 1, 2 or more players. Solitaire used to be my favourite.
  12. Try a new restaurant. Treat yourself to a cake, lunch or dinner out. Or you could always cook or bake yourself something nice at home.

There are many ways to re-fill your cup. We are all different, so what may re-fill your cup will be different to someone else’s. Experiment with the list above and find something, or a few things that you really enjoy doing. Then make sure you block time out in your diary at least once a week to do it. You will feel so much better when you have spent some time doing positive self-care.
